Many farms and food processing and manufacturing operations rely on compressed air to run equipment, tools and processes. In fact, up to 30 per cent of a site’s electricity may be used to generate compress air.

The energy to run air compression equipment can be a significant cost for operators, so using it efficiently is good for business and the environment.

You can save energy on compressed air by:

  • maintaining air compression equipment (e.g. look for leaks)
  • choosing the right size and type of compressor for the task, e.g. variable speed compressors are more efficient
  • managing use (e.g. switch off when not in use; avoid wasting compressed air)
  • using more energy efficient power sources.
